Evolutionary consequences of being born into privilege.

If you did not earn your status or wealth you are doomed to live a life of emptiness without meaning. This can be offset through children & responsibility. If you have children, do not spoil them like Italian parents do, give them the basics and let them solve all problems that they can solve by themselves. For example, letting them throw a tantrum because they can’t watch TV is destroying them, kick them out of the house and give them a ball… If they can do something, don’t do it for them. If they can cook, let them make their meals, if they can wash clothes, let them do that. Don’t do anything for them that they can’t do themselves and don’t give them anything that they don’t need. They need to learn the beauty of struggle.

You definitely don’t want to be doing their homework for them and you definitely don’t want to allow them to throw tantrums without consequences. You are not their butler , nor their friend. Your job is to equip them for adulthood

The Evolutionary Mandate: Struggle as the Engine of Mind

From an evolutionary standpoint, the human brain is not built for passive contentment; it is built for navigation, problem-solving, and territorial expansion. In the theoretical framework of Jordan Peterson, human consciousness organizes the world into two fundamental realms: Chaos (the unknown, unmapped territory) and Order (the known, safe environment).

Positive emotion—specifically the neurochemical release of dopamine—is not triggered when an individual arrives at a static destination. Rather, dopamine fires when an individual observes themselves making measurable progress toward a valued goal in unmapped territory.

When a environment lacks legitimate friction, this natural feedback loop collapses. The mind is structurally designed to master hardship; without a mountain to climb, the engine keeps running, but with no gear engaged.

Biological Foundations: Movement, Musculature, and Neurochemistry

Human biology carries the deep evolutionary legacy of the Pleistocene epoch. For hundreds of thousands of years, survival demanded continuous physical exertion: tracking game, fleeing predators, building shelters, and enduring long periods of caloric deficit.

  • Muscle Contracting as Chemical Synthesis: Modern exercise physiology reveals that skeletal muscle functions as an endocrine organ. Physical exertion releases myokines—specialized signaling proteins—that cross the blood-brain barrier to stimulate neurogenesis, regulate mood, and lower systemic inflammation. Physical exertion is a fundamental biological requirement for neurochemical equilibrium.
  • The Nomadic Baseline: Ancestral humans routinely walked 10 to 15 miles a day, enduring extreme thermal variation and intermittent fasting. The nervous system evolved to operate under these continuous stressors.
  • Oxytocin and Pair-Bonding: Social attachment mechanisms like oxytocin evolved to reward deep, high-stakes cooperation within small, interdependent tribes. When social bonds are isolated from shared survival struggles, these neurochemical rewards become muted and unstable.

When an individual is isolated from physical exertion and meaningful struggle, the body’s natural signaling systems breakdown, leaving the nervous system in a chronic state of uncalibrated alarm.

The Penthouse Paradox: The Burden of Unearned Wealth

When a person inherits extreme wealth, the fundamental survival hierarchy is pre-resolved. Shelter, food, security, and social status are provided without effort. While this appears to be the ultimate goal, it creates a profound psychological crisis.

Traditional Survival PathThe Inherited Wealth Trap
Clear Friction: Daily struggle for food, shelter, and status.Zero Friction: All material needs met effortlessly.
Earned Mastery: Dopamine released via incremental progress.Stagnation: Dopamine system stalls due to lack of meaningful targets.
Natural Meaning: Purpose is embedded in immediate survival.Existential Void: Meaning must be artificially constructed.

Sitting in a penthouse, removed from physical and social challenge, strips away the necessity of voluntary effort. If life derives its meaning from the voluntary burden one chooses to bear, inheriting the summit removes the ascent entirely. The individual is left at the top of a mountain they never climbed, looking out over a world where no action carries genuine stakes.

Manufactured Chaos: The Mechanics of Extreme Behavior

When real-world hardship disappears, the human psyche does not settle into peaceful equilibrium. Instead, it manufactures artificial chaos to simulate the missing survival friction. Nihilism—the conviction that nothing matters—is the psychological tax paid for living in an environment devoid of meaningful struggle.

Without legitimate challenges to overcome, the mind resorts to extreme measures to generate baseline sensation:

  • High-Risk Thrill Seeking: Engaging in reckless behaviors—such as extreme sports, high-stakes gambling, or dangerous driving—forces the body to flood the brain with adrenaline and cortisol, temporarily mimicking the life-or-death stakes of ancestral survival.
  • Chemical Shortcuts: Alcohol and drugs hijack the brain’s reward pathways. They offer a synthetic flood of dopamine and GABA, granting short-term relief from existential dread without requiring the effort of genuine achievement.
  • Compulsive Hedonism: Promiscuity and novelty-seeking exploit the ancient neurobiology of mate selection. Without the stabilizing context of shared hardship and pair-bonding, these encounters yield brief neurochemical spikes followed by deeper feelings of isolation.

The Ultimate Paradox of Growth

The human organism cannot remain static. It is hardwired for adaptation: under physical stress, muscles hypertrophy; under cognitive friction, neural networks strengthen; under moral challenge, character develops.

When a life is engineered to eliminate all suffering, friction, and physical effort, the capacity for growth vanishes. Deprived of a legitimate arena, the individual becomes the author of their own destruction, proving that the human spirit demands a mountain to climb—and that without one, the penthouse becomes a cage.
